November 10, 2025

Dear members of the Connecticut College community,

On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor all who have served in the United States military, including many members of our own community who have demonstrated extraordinary courage and commitment to something greater than themselves. Tomorrow at 9 a.m., we will gather for a flag-raising ceremony by the Gatehouse to recognize the veterans among us, and I hope you will join us.

As we reflect on this day, we remember that their willingness to serve protects the freedoms we all cherish. In a time when our country can feel divided, veterans remind us of the enduring importance of purpose, integrity, and service to others. While few callings are as profound as active duty, each of us can learn from their example and contribute to the common good.

The same values our veterans embody guide our work and learning at Conn every day. We see them in the classroom, in the community, and in the ways we support one another—as tutors in New London public schools, volunteers at the Homeless Hospitality Center, stewards of the coastline and environment, and contributors to local projects that strengthen and serve our community.

To the veterans in our community, and to the families who have supported them, I offer my deepest gratitude. May this day remind us of the power of service and inspire us all to reflect on how we, too, can use our knowledge and talents to contribute to a more just and compassionate world.

Sincerely,
