COVID-19: Staying the Course in Green
Dear Staff and Faculty,
The message below went out to students today alerting them to some of the COVID-19 related challenges that a couple of our fellow NESCAC institutions are facing and encouraging them to continue to focus on keeping the campus safe from COVID-19. Spring is in the air and we all want to enjoy the remaining weeks of the semester in Alert Level 1-Green.

Good Morning! This week you received a flurry of COVID-19 related emails, and I am sorry to add one more to the mix as we go into the weekend. However, I felt that it was important to alert you to what is happening at two of our NESCAC peer institutions.
Both Trinity and Bates are struggling with significant sudden increases in COVID-19 cases on their campuses. Trinity has 23 active student cases and 93 students in quarantine, and Bates has 34 active student cases and approximately 100 students in quarantine. Trinity went from Alert Level Green to Alert Level Yellow, and Bates implemented a campuswide in-room restriction to significantly reduce in-person interactions.
I share this with you as a reminder that we are continuing to operate in a complex environment as we manage life on a residential campus in the midst of a pandemic. There is a lot of enthusiasm about our success in remaining at Alert Level 1-Green for six straight weeks and in our access to vaccines, but this is not a time to be complacent.
Today, the stage on Tempel Green will go up, and next week, the new space will come alive on Founders Day as we launch six weeks of exciting events and performances. Clubs and organizations are meeting, planning and doing the things they are passionate about. Varsity and club athletic teams are engaged in the sports they love. Many faculty and staff are engaging in-person with you. And we are gearing up for wonderful end-of-year events to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2021. The last thing anyone wants to happen is to suspend any of these activities due to COVID-19 case spikes or an outbreak.
Please do everything that you can as an individual—and together with your peers—to keep COVID-19 away from our campus and prevent it from spreading. We are more than halfway into the semester so let’s finish strong and go the distance in Alert Level 1-Green.
