Medical and Mental Health Support and Resources for All Students

Dear Students,

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the Student Counseling and Health Services (SCS and SHS) support resources available to you during these challenging times. 

Health Services

Student Health Services (SHS), along with our partners at Hartford HealthCare, are available to support your medical needs.  Please call (860) 439-2275 or email SHS@conncoll.edu in advance to schedule an in-person or remote appointment.  If at any time you need urgent medical care,  please contact Campus Safety at 860-439-2222.

Individual Counseling

  • Individual counseling is currently being provided remotely by our SCS staff and is available to all students.  Appointments may be made by emailing SCS@conncoll.edu or by calling (860) 439-4587. “Zoom rooms” are available, as needed, in the Health Center for added privacy during your sessions. 

  • Appointments with the psychiatric nurse practitioner for medication evaluation and medication management are being provided remotely and are available to all students. An appointment with a counselor is required prior to meeting with the psychiatric nurse practitioner. Students may schedule an appointment by emailing SCS@conncoll.edu or by calling SCS directly at (860) 439-4587.

Group Counseling

  • Group counseling, provided remotely by our SCS staff, is available to all students. Groups are offered daily. Students may sign up by emailing SCS@conncoll.edu or by calling (860) 439-4587.

    • Mondays: Womxn’s Group, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

    • Wednesdays: General Support Group, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

    • Thursdays: General Support Group, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

    • Fridays: General Support Group, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

    • Identity-focused Groups  - to register email SCS@connoll.edu and indicate which group(s) you are interested in joining. 

      • Coming Together to Process and Explore BIPOC Identities and Experiences ? Weekly psychotherapy group for students who identify as people of color. Day and time TBD based on interested parties please include your schedule in your email expressing interest.

      • Coming Together to Process and Explore LGBTQIA+ Identities and Experiences ?Weekly psychotherapy group for students who identify as  LGBTQIA+. Day and time TBD based on interested parties please include your schedule in your email expressing interest.

      • Coming Together and Processing and Explore Privileged Identities and Experiences ? Monthly, drop-in psychoeducational group for students who identify as cisgender, heterosexual,  allosexual and/or those who identify as White. This group is scheduled to run remotely on the first Wednesday of each month beginning on October 6, 2021

Group Drop-in Meetings/Psychoeducational Groups

Multiple remote drop-in groups are offered throughout the week. Students may register by emailing SCS@conncoll.edu or by calling (860) 439-4587.

  • Tuesdays: 4:15-5:00 p.m., Foundations in Mindfulness 6 week  Remote Drop-in Series starting September 28, 2021

  • Tuesdays: SMART Friends and Family Group (alternative Alanon), 1-2 p.m.  Starting September 28, 2021, meeting for friends and family members of individuals who struggle with substance use. 

  • Wednesdays: SMART Recovery Group (alternative to AA )4:00 - 5:00 p.m, Starting September 29, 2021

After-Hours Care

  • On-campus students experiencing an emergency should call Campus Safety at (860) 439-2222.

  • Off-campus students experiencing an emergency should call their local emergency services at 911 or the appropriate emergency resource number for their location.

  • On-campus students needing assistance after-hours may reach an off-site licensed professional clinician who has partnered with us. 

    • You can reach the service by calling SCS at (860) 439-4587 when the office is closed and pressing option 2 or 3 

    • This is a telephone-based mental health service that is available to all students in need of access to mental health support when SCS is not open. 

    • This service provides students with access to an off-site counselor.

    • We have partnered with Morneau Shepell My Student Support Program (My SSP) to provide free 24/7 mental health care—even when the Health Center is closed. You can download the free My SSP App on the App Store or Google Play 

      • Through the app, you can call or chat with a Student Support Counselor 24/7 in real-time or schedule a telephone or video session that fits your schedule. My SSP provides support in the event of a personal crisis and also connects students with providers, offering both short and long-term counseling.

      • You can browse a digital library of helpful articles and videos. 

      • Or, you can call them directly at  (866) 743-7732 (If calling from outside North America, dial 001-416-380-6578).

    • The services offered through this app are paid for by Connecticut College. provide support at any time during the evening, weekend or break.
