Important Message about Testing Before Departure

Dear Students,

As many of you prepare to depart campus, I want to remind you to wait until you receive a negative test result before you leave the College. The Broad Institute is handling a larger than normal volume of tests right now and they sent a message this morning to all the institutions they are working with to notify us that their typical 24 hour turnaround time may extend out to 36-48 hours over the next few days. As a result, you may need to adjust your travel plans

The expectation to stay on campus until you have a negative test result is not only an expectation of the College but also the expectation of Connecticut's Department of Public Health and Governor Lamont. You may stay on campus past 5 p.m. on Sunday if you are waiting for your test result--please email housing@conncoll.edu to notify REAL that you are staying on campus.

I also want to share with you a letter that President Bergeron received yesterday from the Acting Commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Public Health. In the letter Acting Commissioner Gifford recognizes our community's good work this semester in managing the campus with COVID-19 and reminds you of the State's guidance related to leaving campus and traveling home. The information that we have provided you over the past several weeks is based on the State's expectations.

I hope you have a safe and restful Thanksgiving and I wish you the best of luck finishing the semester. I will be in touch with you over the next couple of months as we prepare for the spring semester.

Sincerely,

Victor Arcelus
Dean of Students
