Summer Guidance

With our density on-campus dropping as we shift to summer operations and with an increasing number of our campus community now fully vaccinated, we have implemented new changes to some of our campus COVID-19 protocols. You will note that there are some differences in protocols depending on whether you are unvaccinated, or are vaccinated and have reported the vaccination to Human Resources. We will continue to update the campus on changes as they develop.

 REPORTING VACCINATION STATUS

If you haven’t received your COVID-19 vaccine yet, we strongly encourage you to do so. Getting vaccinated will help keep you, your family and our community healthy. Vaccine appointments are now readily available in our region and many locations are accepting walk-in appointments. You can find a vaccine appointment near you by visiting Connecticut’s COVID-19 Vaccine Location website.

If you are vaccinated and have NOT reported your vaccination status to the College, please do so as soon as possible. Instructions for how to upload your vaccine record can be found at this link. You can also stop by the Human Resources Office and show your vaccine record in person. For planning purposes, it is important for us to know the vaccination level of our campus community. Please share this information with Human Resources as soon as possible.

 TESTING PROTOCOLS

If you are fully vaccinated and have reported your vaccination information to Human Resources, you will not need to participate in weekly asymptomatic surveillance testing. Given that everyone has become accustomed to regular testing, anyone who has shared their vaccine record with HR may choose to be tested three times over the course of the summer if they choose. We are calling these “Peace of Mind” tests.

If you are not fully vaccinated, you will need to continue to participate in regular testing following the same schedule as this past year. (twice a week if you work three or more days a week on campus, and once a week if you work once or twice a week).

 CONTACT QUARANTINE PROTOCOLS

If you are fully vaccinated, have reported your vaccination information to Human Resources and are identified, through contact tracing, as a close contact of a person who tested positive for COVID-19, you will not be required to quarantine.

If you are not vaccinated or have not reported your full vaccination status to Human Resources, the quarantine protocol remains the same as the spring semester—ten-day quarantine and three negative tests. If you are able to fulfill your job responsibilities remotely, you are expected to continue working during your quarantine period. If you are in quarantine after Aug. 2, 2021 and can work remotely, you should complete and follow the Telework Policy and Agreement for your quarantine period, which can be found on CamelWeb under Documents and Policies in the Human Resources folder.

 MASK WEARING AND SOCIAL DISTANCING

Mask wearing expectations on campus are the same for everyone regardless of your vaccination status. However, you are no longer required to wear a mask outdoors unless you are in a crowd or at a large event.

Masks are required indoors, unless you are alone in an enclosed room with the door closed. Social distancing inside is now three feet, and there are no distancing expectations when outside.

As you may know, the CDC has been communicating updated recommendations regarding mask wearing. The College is regularly reviewing our protocols, consulting with Hartford HealthCare and monitoring the information we receive from faculty and staff about vaccination status. This information will help guide our future plans.

 VISITORS AND GUESTS

If you are planning to have a visitor or guest come to campus, please verify that they are either vaccinated or if not fully vaccinated or unvaccinated, have been tested for COVD-19 within 72 hours of their arrival to campus. These instructions apply to having candidates visit campus for in-person interviews.

 ACCESS TO CAMPUS

As of June 1, all campus gates will be opened as they were in the past before the pandemic. The main entrance off of Route 32 will always be open and you will only need to show your Campus ID between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. All other entrances will be open daily from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

 CAMPUS TOURS

Beginning Monday, June 8, prospective students and their families are able to take guided tours on campus. Student tour guides will lead groups of visitors Monday through Friday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. In July, Saturday tours will be added to the schedule.

Upon arrival to campus, guests will provide proof that they have been fully vaccinated or have received a negative COVID-19 test within the previous 72 hours, and they will wear masks while on the tours.

 TRAVEL UPDATES

College-sponsored domestic travel will resume, and we will be following the CDC recommendations for travel.

  • If you are fully vaccinated and have reported your vaccination information to Human Resources, you should follow normal COVID-19 precautions while traveling, such as mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing and avoiding large crowds. When you return from travel you should self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms but you do NOT need to be tested or to quarantine.
  • If you are not vaccinated or have not reported your full vaccination status to Human Resources, you should report your out-of-state overnight travel (both personal and College travel) to the College in order to help manage quarantine when you return. You should follow normal COVID-19 precautions while traveling such as mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing and avoiding large crowds. When you return from travel, you should self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and quarantine for seven days before returning to work on campus. During your quarantine period you should be tested on campus at least once, three to five days after you return home. When you return to work, you should resume your regular testing schedule. You are expected to notify your supervisor or department head if your quarantine will impact your work. If you are able to fulfill your job responsibilities remotely, you are expected to continue working during your quarantine period. If you are in quarantine after Aug. 2, 2021, and can work remotely, you should complete and follow the Telework Policy and Agreement for your quarantine period.

College-sponsored international travel must be coordinated with and approved by your division head. Travel to countries with a CDC COVID-19 risk assessment level of one or two will be permitted, and those with level three or four will be considered on a case-by-case basis. When international travel is approved, the same expectations noted above for domestic travel should be followed. Please refer to the CDC Travel Alerts for country specific details. Note that these alert levels are regularly updated so check them often when traveling.

Personal travel should follow the expectations noted above for College sponsored travel. The College strongly discourages personal international travel to locations where the CDC has determined that the risk assessment level for COVID-19 is high, very high or unknown (alert levels 3, 4 and 0 respectively).
