“I never anticipated my college experience beginning in a Pandemic. The first semester of college is difficult in normal circumstances, with students adjusting to life away from home, but the pandemic amplified this uneasiness. I appreciated Conn’s dedication to our safety, and the efforts made to connect first-year students.”

“Everyone felt they were navigating new waters during the fall semester. So much was undetermined at the start, but we had to quickly adapt to this COVID reality and figure things out as we went along.”

“Attending college during a global pandemic was both a blessing and a hardship. Many schools were shut down, and not as fortunate as Conn was. A surprising aspect, yet a safe one, was how long it took for sports to get the ‘okay’ for contact. Bottom line, Conn kept us safe. Our advantage was being tested, and knowing that I was healthy, and the people around me were safe.”

“This past year has reminded me how much the little things matter. Just having the opportunity to see friends and fellow students in person rather than through a screen is something I’m truly grateful for, and is a major reason I returned to campus. These opportunities could easily not exist if not for Conn’s diligent work to provide a safe but ‘normal’ semester, and the students who work to keep each other safe.”
COVID-19: A Year in Review
Theater and dance made their triumphant returns this fall in outdoor spaces on campus.
The pandemic hit. And then nearly all the world’s citizens went inside. By the end of March 2020, around 2.6 billion people—one-third of the human population—were obeying some forms of stay-at-home orders. Thankfully, we’ve emerged from lockdowns to carry on in a socially distant fashion. And as more people become vaccinated, we hope “normal” is around the corner. Currently at Conn, we are back, although campus looks a bit different. However, we look forward to resuming normal operations on campus in fall 2021. This Year in Review reflects a sampling of stories about how Conn navigated a year unlike any other. We are proud of the way our community continues to rise to the challenge while putting the “liberal arts into action.”
