Binalakshmi Nepram, born in the state of Manipur located in India's Northeast region, is a writer humanitarian spearheading work on making women, peace and security an issue that is meaningful to people's lives. She is author of five books. Her fifth edited volume “Where are Women in Decision Making?” was released in New Delhi. She is currently working on her sixth book which looks at gender and race relations.

In 2004, Ms Nepram co-founded India's first civil society organization that is working on conventional disarmament issues, namely the Control Arms Foundation of India. And in 2007, in order to help thousands of women who are affected by gun violence in her home-state of Manipur, Ms. Nepram launched the Manipur Women Gun Survivor Network. She has represented Indian civil society in various women and disarmament meetings held at United Nations in New York and in Geneva.

Ms. Nepram is recipient of the Dalai Lama Foundation's WISCOMP Scholar of Peace Award; Sean MacBride Peace Prize; CNN IBN Real Heroes Award; and her team, Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network, won "Indian of the Year" Award in Special Achievement category in the same year. London-based organization Action on Armed Violence named Nepram as one of the “100 most influential people in world working on armed violence reduction."

In January 2015, Forbes (India) listed Binalakshmi Nepram in 24 "Young Minds of India that Matter" and India’s largest circulated Femina Women’s Magazine honoured her with Femina Women Awards 2015 on March 23, 2015, followed by the Young Women Federation of Indian Commerce and Industries “Young Women Achievers Award 2014-15” for her work with 20,000 women survivors. In 2016, USA-based organization honored her with the “Women Have Wings” Award. She also was honored with the Delhi University Jijabai Women Empowerment Award 2017 and the Telegraph Excellence Award 2017.
