William Wuyke, a long-time member of the College's athletic program and former Venezuelan Olympian, was appointed in 2006 as the College's first strength and conditioning coach. Formerly, Wuyke was assistant men's track and field coach.
At the time of his appointment, Director of Athletics Fran Shields stated: "William (Wuyke) brings incredible energy and enthusiasm to our new fitness position. His reputation as a world-class runner, his outgoing personality, and care for our students' well-being strengthens our department."
Wuyke coordinates the strength and conditioning programming for the school's 28 varsity teams while continuing to direct the fitness and wellness center. As an adjunct associate professor of physical education, Wuyke will be expanding the fitness curriculum for Connecticut College students.
Under Wuyke's direction, Connecticut College constructed the Lyn & David Silfen Track and Field in 1996. Additionally, Wuyke has coached numerous regional and national qualifiers, including NCAA runner up Dave Barron (Weight Throw) in 1994.
