Recall and renewals

Patrons must return books by the date indicated on the due date slip and must respond promptly to any recall notice we send in the event that another person needs an item you have checked out. Please note that the number of renewals is limited to 2.

Overdue

If an item is more than 28 days overdue and is not returned, the item is considered lost. Patrons are charged a replacement fee of $50.00 and a $35.00 processing fee for each lost item. (Information of replacement charges for music materials is available from the Music Library staff.)

Building Usage

  • Policy: There is no posting for events, etc, except on the bulletin board next to the front door, or the smaller bulletin board in the Blue Camel.
  • Policy: If there is an event that is being held in Shain, and you wish to have a poster up, the library can arrange for an easel.

  • Policy: There is no hanging of banners within the library.

  • Policy: There is no posting on the exterior glass of the library and its doors.
  • Policy: People using the library shall respect any request from any other user to be quiet...except on the first floor.
  • Policy: Students who wish to move whiteboards around the building to work with classmates are free to do so. But they must make sure they are not moving boards that have other people’s work on them.
  • Policy: Whiteboards may not be used by staff or students to advertise events.

  • Policy: Whiteboards may be used with Post-Its for polling purposes, but arrangements must be made with Carrie Kent (ckent@conncoll.edu) or in her absence, Lorraine Gruber (lgruber@conncoll.edu)

  • Policy: Study tables in collaboration rooms or from the floors may not be moved. (Most have network connections).

  • Policy: Furniture in the Living Room may not be removed from the Living Room.

  • Policy: Any event that takes place outside of regular library hours must be discussed with Carrie Kent (ckent@conncoll.edu)  Any reasonable request for early opening, or later closing, can almost always be accommodated…but not if we do not know. The library will not stay open without a properly trained IS staff member present. The building is filled with expensive collections, computers and technology that must be protected.

  • Policy: Students can book collaboration rooms online. They may not be booked by faculty or staff.

  • Policy: Students often have need to poll their peers, or even more formally survey them. The library can commit the use of a whiteboard, or a table, to accommodate both kinds of activities. HOWEVER, students wanting to do this must receive permission from the Library to do either, and are expected to return whiteboards and clean up at the end. Contact Carrie Kent (ckent@conncoll.edu) or in her absence Lorraine Gruber (lgruber@conncoll.edu)

In accordance with College policy, dogs are allowed on campus but must be leashed at all times and owners must clean up after their dogs. Unless it is a service or therapy animal, dogs are not allowed in Shain Library.
