Access to public accommodations has been a central struggle of many civil rights movements throughout history, including that of African Americans, disability rights activists and LGBTQIA people. Restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms and changing areas are common spaces that we navigate on a daily basis; they also serve as lightning rods for the enforcement of gender norms, the policing of transgender people, and sadly, a significant amount of violence. Gender inclusive restrooms are one small but important step in making the world a safer place for transgender and gender non-conforming people.

In addition to gender-inclusive restrooms in residence halls, the following gender-inclusive restrooms are available in academic and administrative buildings:

  • Bill Hall: fifth floor, near east stairwell
  • College Center at Crozier-Williams (Cro): first floor, outside other restrooms

  • Dayton Arena: first floor, outside Room 104
  • Facilities Management service building: first floor, west end of hallway
  • Fanning Hall: second floor hallway
  • Fitness Center: second floor, next to elevator
  • Hale Laboratory: basement level, across from Room 014
  • Harkness Chapel: basement level, near bottom of stairs; basement level inside Room 109; first floor, by main office
  • Holmes Hall: second floor, outside Room 204
  • Horizon House (Admission): first floor, near waiting room, and second floor, near top of stairs
