Armstrong's Blazers are back after a 12 year absence

It's been 12 years since the professional lacrosse team, Boston Blazers, took the field, but now they're back – and under the ownership of Tim Armstrong '93.

The Blazers are part of the 12-team National Lacrosse League (NLL) which recently expanded despite a tough economic climate.

"The silver lining in a bad economy is that if we can make it work now, we can make it work when times are better," Armstrong told the Boston Globe.

A Google vice president, Armstrong is a native of Littleton, Mass. and former captain of the Connecticut College lacrosse team.

The popularity of the sport has increased recently, with participation more than doubling over the past eight years. Last season's NCAA men's championships brought more than 145,000 fans to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.

Armstrong's team was originally scheduled to start back up last year but was delayed when the NLL season was canceled temporarily due to a wage dispute, which was later settled.

Armstrong called the team's late entry "a costly benefit" that allowed the team to watch player drafts, study talent, see other teams in operation and start their front office up.

"We paid to learn," Armstrong said in the Globe, "but it was well worth it."

The Blazers kick off the season on Jan. 17. For more information, visit www.blazerslacrosse.com.
