Camels Finish Third in 15 Team Field at MIT Invitational
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The Connecticut College volleyball team (9-3) posted a 3-1 record this weekend to finish third in the 15 team field at the MIT Invitational. Junior setter Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) was honored on the All-Tournament team for the Camels.
Saturday afternoon, the Camels split their final two matches. In the noon-time match up, Connecticut College dropped a 3-1 decision to the eventual champion Tufts. The Jumbos won with game scores of 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.
Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) exploded with 23 kills and 16 digs in the Tufts match up. DeMais tallied 46 assists and five aces for the Camels. Lauren Wise (Oakton, Va.) chipped in with 13 kills and 14 digs.
Later on in the 4:00 p.m. match, the Camels posted a convincing 25-20, 25-9, 25-11 shutout victory against Wesleyan. Newman added 10 kills and five aces in the Camel triumph.
Friday Night Roundup:
Connecticut College won its first two matches at the MIT Invitational Friday night.
In the early match, the Camels posted a 3-0 victory against Colby Sawyer College. Junior setter Marissa DeMais dished out 35 assists in the triumph. Senior Lauren Wise posted a double-double with 10 kills, 12 digs and four aces. Meg Christman (Wilmington, Del.) added 10 kills for the Camels in the win.
Connecticut College knocked off host MIT 3-1 in the night-cap. The game scores were 25-22, 25-17, 11-25 and 25-14 in favor of the visitors. DeMais distributed 44 assists to lead the Camels in the victory. Sophomore Amy Newman erupted with 20 kills and 13 digs in the win. MIT (10-3) carried a four-match winning streak into the contest.
