NEW LONDON, Conn.--Ellery Gould (East Sandwich, Mass.) had a hat-trick with three scores to lead visiting Bowdoin College (4-3, 2-2) to a 4-0 NESCAC victory against Connecticut College (3-5, 0-4) in a game that was played on the Coast Guard Turf Field Saturday.
Toni DaCampo (Woburn, Mass.) chipped in with a goal in the second straight win for the visitors.
Kat Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) made one save in the win for Bowdoin.
Connecticut College senior Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.) had two saves in the first half. Amy Lowitt (Baltimore, Md.) made one save in the second half of action.
Bowdoin scored first in the 21st minute of action. DaCampo was able to steal the ball out in front of the goal and score from point-blank range. Gould supplied the first of her trifecta with 18:15 remaining when she lifted a high shot over the Camel defense from 15 yards out. In the 41st minute of action, Gould took off from midfield in a full sprint, creating on her own with a one-on-one move for the goal and the visitors carried the 3-0 lead into the break.
The Camels played much better in the second half. Three minutes into the second stanza, Ali McKeigue (Arlington, Mass.) collected a ball out in front of the goal and took a shot at close range but Flaherty was able to break down and make the stop.
Later on with 39:30 left to play, Brigi Palatino (Ludlow, Mass.) connected with Kate Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) in a two-on-one situation. Driscoll fired a shot that sailed over the crossbar.
Gould closed out the scoring in the 69th minute of play. Larkin Brown (Rehoboth, Mass.) delivered an entry pass to Gould who put in a low shot to complete the hat trick.
The Camels will look to rebound next Saturday when they visit Trinity College for an 11:00 a.m. game in Hartford, Conn.
Bowdoin will host Colby College Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. game in Brunswick, Maine.
