Red Hot Camels (5-1) Host Babson Wednesday in New London
NEW LONDON, Conn. -The Connecticut College men´s soccer team (5-1) will host Babson College (7-4) Wednesday afternoon in a 4:00 p.m. game on Tempel Green.
Babson enters Wednesday´s game as the eighth ranked team in the NSCAA New England Regional Ranking. Another big week has catapulted the Camels into the #5 slot in the region.
It´s been a memorable first month of the season for first year head coach Kenny Murphy and his Camels. Back on Sept. 26, the Camels stunned the second ranked team in the nation, Amherst College in a 4-1 victory on the Green.
But the Camels were not nearly done there. In a driving rainstorm Saturday, Connecticut College won a thrilling 1-0 decision in double overtime against Bowdoin. Trevor Prophet (Nashua, N.H.) buried the game-winner that clinched the program´s best start in 16 years.
Prophet has accounted for all of his 2009 offensive production (four goals, two assists, 10 points) during the Camels current four-game winning streak. A 2008 First Team All-NESCAC selection for the Camels, Prophet is sharing the league lead in goals scored and averages 1.67 points per game to rank second in scoring.
Senior Alex Martland (Marblehead, Mass.) has posted three shutouts this fall and is third among NESCAC keepers with 4.17 saves per start. David Louria (Brookside, N.J.) scored both goals in a 2-0 victory at UMass Dartmouth Sept. 29. Graham Christensen (Darien, Conn.) has scored twice this fall in his rookie season for the Camels.
The Camels received a nice boost in the backfield Saturday with the return of 2008 ESPN Academic All-District performer Mickey Lenzi (Hauppauge, N.Y.). Isaac Hancock (Gettysburg, Pa.) has built on his impressive rookie season in the midfield.
After dropping two out of their first three games, the visiting Beavers have caught fire and been on the winning side in six of their last eight games.
