Hine Tallies Fifth Goal of Season for Camels
MIDDLEBURY, Vt.--Connecticut College (3-7, 2-5) battled 11th ranked Middlebury College (8-3, 4-3) in a scoreless contest for 45 minutes but the Panthers erupted with two goals in a span of 3:59 in the second half and went on to defeat the Camels 4-1.
After dropping two out of their first three games this season, the Panthers have been on the winning side in seven out of their last eight contests. The Camels have dropped five in a row but are still in position to reach the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Tournament with two league games remaining on the schedule.
Lauren Greer (North Hampton, N.H.) opened the scoring 10:43 into the second stanza as she caught the Camels in transition and put away her 11th marker of the season. Charlotte Gardiner (Larchmont, N.Y.) assisted on the score. With 20:18 remaining, the Panthers extended their lead when Gardiner connected with Chase Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) for a goal. The Panthers scored the next two goals to break the game open on their home field.
Connecticut College junior Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.) scored her fifth goal of the season with 2:42 remaining to close out the scoring. Kelly Watkins (San Jose, Calif.) assisted on the tally.
Madeline Brooks (Clayton, Mo.) stopped five shots for Middlebury. Senior Steph Quinn (Arlington, Mass.) made five saves in the setback for the Camels.
Connecticut College will visit Babson College Thursday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference game.
