Martland Stops Six Panther Shots for Camels
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College (6-3-2, 2-2-2) recorded a 3-0 victory against visiting Connecticut College (6-3-1, 3-3) in NESCAC men´s soccer action played at Middlebury, Vt. Saturday afternoon.
Both sides had scoring chances early in the game. Connecticut College sophomore Oscar Brown (Ridgefield, Conn.) connected with David Louria (Brookside, N.J.) in the 26th minute but Tim Cahill (Glastonbury, Conn.) was able to collect one of his three saves for the Panthers.
In the 40th minute of action, the Panthers vaulted out to a 1-0 lead when Carson Cornbrooks (Williston, Vt.) put in a header. Tyler Macnee (Williston, Vt.) played the ball into the box and was credited with an assist on the tally.
In the second stanza, the hosts took a 2-0 lead when Robbie Redmond (Morristown, N.J.) collected his own rebound of a penalty kick and scored.
The Panthers added an insurance goal in the 71st minute and were able to keep the Camels off the scoreboard for the balance of the contest.
Senior Alex Martland (Marblehead, Mass.) made six saves in another strong showing for the Camels in goal. Cahill posted his fifth shutout of the season for the hosts.
The Camels will visit Tufts University Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. NESCAC game in Medford, Mass. After the Tufts game, the Camels will return home to Tempel Green for the final three games of the regular season.
