NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College sophomore Doug Wright of Darien, Conn. has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men´s Cross Country Performer of the Week.
Wright finished fourth overall at the Plansky Invitational hosted by Williams on Saturday with a time of 26:29. He was the second collegiate runner to complete the course behind Jesse Faller.
Connecticut College men´s cross country coach Jim Butler has been pleased with Wright´s development and work ethic in his second year with the program.
"Doug worked extremely hard this summer, and it is really paying off," Butler said. "We knew that his third place finish in the 5000 at the NESCAC Championships last spring indicated he could run with the top guys in the conference, and he made sure to put himself in the best position possible to have a successful Cross Country season."
Wright was the third runner for the Camels in his rookie season. This season, he has been the team´s top finisher in his first four races.
Wright and the Camels will be training the next two weeks in preparation for the 2009 NESCAC Championship hosted by Trinity College at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn. November 1.
Last season, the Camels finished a single point behind Tufts University in fifth place at the NESCAC Championship with a score of 130 points.
