Newman Erupts with 28 Kills & 21 Digs for Camels
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) exploded with 28 kills and 21 digs to rally the Connecticut College volleyball team (21-5, 8-2) in a 3-2 victory against Wesleyan University (13-13, 4-6) in front of a packed crowd of 200 fans at Luce Fieldhouse Friday night.
Senior Lauren Wise (Oakton, Va.) erupted with 14 kills and 14 digs in a double-double for the Camels, who set a program record for most conference victories (8) in a season Friday night.
Meg Christman (Wilmington, Del.) tallied 10 kills and five blocks in her final regular season match in New London. The Camels have won 70% of their matches (79-34) since Wise and Christman joined the program in 2006.
The Camels won game one 25-23 but the Cardinals answered with a 25-23 triumph in game two. In the third game, the Cardinals won a 25-15 decision. But the Camels rallied to win 25-17 in game four and Newman delivered the game-winning kill in the deciding fifth game, a 15-11 victory for the hosts.
Junior setter Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) dished out 52 assists in the victory. Ally Terlizzi (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) registered 16 digs for the Camels.
Wesleyan University sophomore Casey Reed (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) had 18 kills in the match. Senior Ashley Farrow (Evanston, Ill.) contributed 12 kills and a pair of blocks for the Cardinals. Ellika Healy (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tallied 40 assists, 14 digs, and four aces.
Ruby Hernandez (West Palm Beach, Fla.) contributed with 16 digs in the setback for Wesleyan. Alissa Santucci (Syosset, N.Y.) served up eight aces for the losing side.
The Camels will be competing in their fifth consecutive NESCAC Championship Quarterfinal Friday Nov. 6.
