NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College freshman Katie Karlson of Wayland, Mass. has been honored as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women´s swimming performer of the week.
In a dual meet victory against the Coast Guard Saturday, Karlson set a school record in the 200 yard breaststroke for the Camels, posting a winning time of 2:29.74. In the 100 yard breast, Karlson narrowly missed out another school mark with a time of 1:08.21. In addition to her individual event victories, Karlson contributed to the Camels´ win in the 400 yard medley relay.
Connecticut College head coach Marc Benvenuti has been pleased with Karlson´s fast start in her first year with the program.
"This was a terrific week for Katie," Benvenuti said. "She has tremendous potential and we are extremely excited have her with us for the next four years."
At Wayland High School, Karlson helped lead her team to four consecutive state championships, captaining the squad in her junior and senior seasons. She was honored as a Dual County League All-Star for four consecutive years and was named to the prestigious Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team in 2009. Karlson was also tabbed to the 2008 Metrowest Daily News All-Star Team.
