NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College men´s basketball team will host Springfield College Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game at Luce Fieldhouse. The Camels (3-5) have won two of their last three games and would love to close out the month of December with a home win. The Pride (2-7) has lost its last three games but two of those three games were played against ranked opponents.
Connecticut College senior captain Shavar Bernier (Dover, N.H.) will lead the Camels into action. Bernier is tenth in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) scoring with 14.6 points per game, second in three point makes (3.00 triples per game), and ranked fifth in both steals (1.88 steals per game) and free throw percentage (.826) for the Camels.
Bernier is closing on in the 1,000 point barrier for the Camels with 944 points in his prolific playing career. In 82 games, Bernier has buried 159 three-point field goals, corralled 285 Rebounds, dished out 178 assists and grabbed 119 steals for Connecticut College.
Sophomore forward Demetrius Porter (Virginia Beach, Va.) has posted three double-doubles this season and is contributing 14.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.63 blocks per game for the Camels. Junior Dean Lampe (Hamilton, Mass.) is shooting a sizzling 55% clip (11-for-20) from three-point distance and is averaging 12.6 points and 5.4 boards per game.
The Pride will counter with the dynamic front court duo of Pat Crean (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) and Matt Cavalieri (West Warwick, R.I.). Crean is averaging 18.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the visitors while Cavalieri has chipped in with 15.8 points and 8.6 boards per outing.
