Christopher´s 36 Saves Keep Camels Close with Bantams
HARTFORD, Conn.--The Connecticut College women´s hockey team (8-15-2) did everything they could to knock off fifth ranked Trinity College (20-3-2) but fell just short in the end of a 2-1 loss to the Bantams in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game played at Williams Rink in Hartford Saturday.
Trailing 2-0 in the third period, the Camels halved the lead when Kourtney Brim (Shawnee, Kan.) rifled home a blast from the right point 1:04 into the third period. Celia Medeiros (Portsmouth, R.I.) assisted on the goal. Later on in the closing moments, Brigid O´Gorman (Eden, N.Y.) launched a shot from the blue line with seven seconds left that could have tied the game. But Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.) was able to make the save to preserve the one-goal victory for the hosts.
Trinity built a 2-0 lead when Celia Colman-McGaw (Manchester, Conn.) broke free in a one-on-one move. The Bantams opened the scoring on their power play. Britney McKenna (Rye, N.Y.) distributed a pass through the slot to Hannah Harvey (Silverthorne, Colo), who buried a one-timer for the goal.
Senior Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) kept the game close with 26 saves in the first two periods of action. Christopher closed out the game with 36 saves and moved into third place on the program´s all-time leader list with 1471 saves. Iwachiw made 33 stops for the Bantams.
