Camel Women Place Second, Men Finish Fifth at Home Invitational
Dermody, Murtagh & Wiseman Win Events for Camels
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) posted a time of 4:56.67 to win the 1500 meter run at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College Saturday. Dermody also ran the lead the leg on the winning 4x800 meter relay team for the Camels.
The Camel women finished second in the 12 team field with a score of 113 points. Worcester State College tallied 158 points to win the invitational. The Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth placed third with a score of 91 points.
Tim Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.) and Owen Wiseman (Weston, Conn.) posted victories to lead the men´s squad to a fifth place score of 88 points.
Murtagh won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:58.15 while Wiseman reached a height of 12 feet, nine inches to win the pole vault for Connecticut College.
The Coast Guard racked up 153 points to win the men´s invitational. UMass Dartmouth took second place with 140 points and Worcester State placed third with 91 points.
In the women´s invitational, the Camel foursome comprised of Dermody, Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.), Clare Murphy-Hagan (Portland, Ore.) and Molly Pistrang (Princeton, Mass.) triumphed with a time of 10:07.09 in the 4x800 meter relay.
In the 4x100 meter relay, Brigi Palatino (Ludlow, Mass.), Joann O´Brien (Plymouth, Mass.), Cara Hass (Franklin, Mass.) and Ali Holland (Watertown, Mass.) took second in 52 seconds flat. Merry Byrne (Brookside, N.J.), Haley Goodwill (Marlborough, Conn.), Holland and Hayley O´Neil (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) posted a time of 4:15.46 for another second place score in the 4x400 meter relay.
Molly Pistrang added eight more points with her second place finish in the 800 meters, posting a time of 2:24.62 for the Camels. Merry Byrne logged a time of 1:09.78 in the 400 meter hurdles to place third for the Camels. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Maura Hallisey (Wethersfield, Conn.) was third with a time of 13:09.99.
Rachel Jacobsen (Allendale, N.J.) cleared a height of eight feet, 3.25 inches to finish third in the pole vault. In the javelin, Marina Van der Eb (Brooksville, Maine) and Keri Ramsey (Westbend, Wis/East Lyme HS, Conn.) took second and third place respectively. Van Der Eb threw the javelin 111 feet, seven inches while Ramsey covered a distance of 109 feet, seven inches for Connecticut College.
In men´s action, Sophomore Brenner Green (Lisbon, Conn.) posted a time of 35:14.78 to place second in the 10,000 meters. Tristan Cole (St. Helen, Calif.) was third in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:06.55.
In the 4x100 meter relay, Brian Gooch (Columbia, N.H.), Alex DeShields (Melrose, Mass.), Rob Webbe (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Tommy Howd (Sudbury, Mass.) finished third with a time of 45.36 seconds for the Camels.
