Camels Knock off Utica, Penn State-Behrend at Wheaton College (Ill.) Invite
Bakanas Scores 23 Goals in Opening Weekend of Action
WHEATON, Ill.--The Connecticut College women´s water polo team (2-3) earned a pair of wins in the season-opening Wheaton College Invitational this weekend. Senior Phoebe Bakanas (Redding, Conn.) erupted with 23 goals in the first five matches to lead the Camels.
Connecticut College raced out to a fast start, defeating Utica College 16-9, before dropping its next three matches. In the weekend finale, the Camels rebounded with a 13-3 triumph against Penn State-Behrend.
Freshman Kristin Lampley (Reading, Pa.) accounted for 16 scores and 24 steals in a productive opening weekend of collegiate action for Head Coach JJ Addison´s Camels.
Sophomore Emily Hunter (Cheshire, Conn.) netted eight scores for Connecticut College. Megan Wright (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) scored three goals while Maia Taft (Lexington, Mass.) contributed with two.
Rookie net-minder Pamela Lovejoy (Guilford, Conn.) totaled 45 saves with four steals in the early season action.
After toppling Utica in the season opener, the Camels lost their next two matches Friday, falling in a 17-12 setback to Macalester College before dropping a 16-6 decision to Carthage College.
Saturday afternoon, the Camels fell to tournament host Wheaton, 12-5. In the final match of the weekend, the Camels tamed the Behrend Bears in a 13-3 triumph.
The Camels will host Grove City College Friday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Lott Natatorium.
