WATERVILLE, Maine ---The Colby College Men´s Lacrosse Team put together a 5-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away from Connecticut College in a 12-9 victory on Bill Alfond Field Saturday afternoon. The Camels, ranked #6 in the latest USILA National Poll, fall to 13-1 and 7-1 in the NESCAC. Colby improves its record to 9-5 with a 4-4 mark in league play. Whit McCarthy (Darien, Conn.) scored six goals to lead the Mules to the home victory. Greg McKillop dished out three assists for the hosts and Thomas Gianakos (Simsbury, Conn.) recorded eight of his 12 saves in the second half for the winning side. Connecticut College senior Steve Dachille (Garden City, N.Y.) scored three goals to pace the visitors. Eric Doran (Pennington, N.J.) netted two goals for the Camels and Mike O´Donnell (Winchester, Mass.) corralled six ground balls. Sophomore net-minder Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.) stopped 15 Colby shots in the setback. McCarthy scored three goals in the opening half to vault the Mules out to a 4-1 advantage. But the Camels ended the half with four straight goals to pull ahead. Dachille netted an unassisted tally with 1:19 to go and the Camels carried the 5-4 lead into the break. Colby held a slim 9-to-8 shot advantage in the third quarter but out-scored the Camels 3-to-1 to take a 7-6 lead into the final 15 minutes of action. Doran scored his 21st goal of the season with 11:43 remaining in regulation to force the game´s fifth tie at seven. Later on in the quarter with 9:21 remaining, Mike Giambanco (Massapequa, N.Y.) netted his 11th score of the season to put the Camels back on top 8-7. But Colby scored three goals in a span of 1:04 to take the lead for good. McCarthy accounted for two of the scoring strikes for the hosts. Mark Squicciarino (Titusville, N.J.) added an insurance goal with 4:06 remaining to make it an 11-8 game before McCarthy added his sixth score with 1:51 to go. The Mules were able to hold on for the 12-9 victory. In the past two seasons, Colby has gone 12-1 on its home field in Waterville. Up Ahead: Connecticut College will host Wesleyan University this Friday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. NESCAC game in New London. Sunday, May 2, the Camels will host a NESCAC Championship Quarterfinal at 1:00 p.m. Notes: Dachille leads the club with 41 goals and is in third place on the school´s all-time goal scoring list with 124 markers. Eric Doran (21 goals, eight assists) and Ryan Hayes (17 goals, 12 assists) have contributed 29 points each. Junior Mark Mangano (Basking Ridge, N.J.) has doled out a team-high 14 assists to go with 11 goals for 25 points. Chuck Czerkawski (Cohasset, Mass.) has won 63% of his face-offs (109-for-173) and leads the club with 58 ground balls. Sean Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) has corralled 53 ground balls in his first season as a defensive midfielder. Will Schumann (East Hampton, N.Y.) has 27 ground balls this season and totaled 139 in his career. Moccia has registered a 7.26 goals against average to go with a .617 save percentage this season.
