Connecticut College 5, Babson College 4 Barone, Smith Lead Camels Past Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Connecticut College Women´s Team earned a 5-4 victory against host Babson College in a non-conference match played Friday afternoon. Under the direction of Interim Head Coach Chris O´Brien, the Camels have improved to 6-2 by winning five of their last six matches. The Beavers slip to 7-8 with their fourth straight loss. Babson took two of the three doubles matches to hold an early advantage in the match but freshman Cassie Smith (Shelburne, Vt.) and junior Caroline Barone (North Kingstown, R.I.) salvaged a point for the Camels with a convincing 8-1 triumph at #2. Barone carried the momentum forward into singles action, taking an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory at #4. Freshmen Sara Krivoshik (Wilton, Conn.) and Jen Herbert (Pawcatuck, Conn.) notched straight set wins in their respective slots at #5 and #6. Smith completed the comeback with the game-winning point at first singles, pulling away for a 7-5, 6-2 victory. Babson College sophomore Rebecca Stone (Andover, Mass.) earned a 7-5, 6-4, win at #2 singles while senior captain Lorena Becerra (Key Biscayne, Fla.) collected 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 victory at third singles for the hosts. The Camels will host Bowdoin College Saturday afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. NESCAC match up on the South Tennis Courts in New London.
