The Connecticut College Women´s Water Polo Team will open its 2010 season March 26 with three matches in Wheaton, Ill. The Camels will be led by Co-captains Phoebe Bakanas and sophomore Emily Hunter this spring. A 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At Large Third Team selection, Bakanas is the program´s most dangerous scoring threat. "Phoebe is a sweet young woman on land but in the pool, she takes on a whole different persona as a fearless competitor," Head Coach JJ Addison said. "She can shoot and score from any position in the pool and has a great vision for the game that allows her to set up her teammates." Bakanas has scored 98 goals over the past two seasons and needs to be accounted for at all times. Joining Bakanas in the captain ranks will be sophomore Emily Hunter, who tallied 14 goals in a productive rookie season with the program. Kohnstam is a versatile athlete who played in the cage during 2008 but should bolster the team´s offensive production as a field player this spring. On the heels of her nine goal season in 2009, junior Ada Spahija is ready to step and play a more significant role this season. Katie Mullaley and Lara Romano made a smooth transition in their first year with the program and should provide some offensive punch to the line-up. With the new scheduling format, the Camels will only be home for one weekend in Lott Natatorium, from April 9-11. Addison and the Camels will look to start strong against Utica College in the season opener on the 25th. Last year, the Camels notched three of their four wins against the Pioneers, out-scoring their Northern Division counterparts by a count of 51-to-23.
