Marini Stops 10 Shots for Camels
AMHERST, Mass.-- Sophomore striker Spencer Noon (Farmington, Mass.) scored a pair of second half goals to lead the Amherst College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory against Connecticut College in a game played on Hitchcock Field Saturday.
The Camels had won the previous two meetings against their conference rivals but slip to 2-2-1 and 1-1-1 in the NESCAC with the loss. The Lord Jeffs remain unbeaten with a mark of 3-0-2 and are 1-0-2 in league play.
Amherst out-shot the Camels 12-to-2 in the first half but first year goalie Casey Marini (Hampden, Mass.) corralled six of his 10 saves in the frame.
In the 68th minute of action, the hosts were awarded a penalty kick while they were setting up on a corner and Noon took full advantage, burying the game-winner.
The Camels nearly got one back in the 70th minute of action. Oscar Brown (Ridgefield, Conn.) made a post-to-post pass to Billy Hawkey (Pennington, N.J.) who was in a full sprint to the goal. Hawkey tried to get a leg on it but the ball trickled out of play.
Noon buried a header in the 82nd minute and the hosts were able to hold on for the 2-0 win.
