Connecticut College 2, Mount Holyoke 1
McKeigue, Palatino Tally for Improving Camels
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.--Brigi Palatino (Ludlow, Mass.) picked the right time to score her first goal of the season and her tally in the 53rd minute of action proved to be the difference as the Connecticut College Camels were able to hold off the Mount Holyoke College Lyons for a 2-1 win.
The Camels improve to 4-3-2 and have already matched their 2009 win total. It was their 18th straight victory against the Lyons in the longstanding rival, a winning streak that dates back to 1986.
Mount Holyoke College is 1-9-1 this season.
Ali McKeigue (Arlington, Mass.) notched her second goal of the season for the Camels. Jess Kharasch (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Candice Clark (Queens, N.Y.) earned assists for the winning side.
Rookie net-minder Lee Tsairis (York Harbor, Maine) made three saves in her second start of the season.
McKeigue opened the scoring in the 14th minute of action. Kharasch, who scored twice in last week´s win against Rhode Island College, was the facilitator who set up the goal after controlling a throw in from the sideline.
The Lyons responded in the 21st minute. Jacquelyn Archibald (Marshfield, Mass.) converted on a cross from Mary Cooke (Okemos, Mich.) to even the score at one.
But the Camels regained their one goal advantage 7:56 into the second stanza. Candice Clark delivered a cross from the left side. Palatino was able to come away with it and had a shot at an open goal.
The Camels have a golden opportunity to vault their way into the NESCAC post-season picture this Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. game against Middlebury College in front of a packed fall weekend crowd on Tempel Green.
