Wright, Holland Qualify for NE D. III Champ. at Wesleyan
MIDDLETOWN, Conn.--The Connecticut College track and field teams opened their season Saturday with the Wesleyan University Invitational in Middletown, Conn. Saturday. Junior Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) and sophomore Ali Holland (Watertown, Mass.) both had their tickets stamped for the New England Division III Championship.
Wright posted a winning time of 8:54.01 in the 3,000 meters, while Holland triumphed in the high hurdles with a time of 9.31 seconds for Connecticut College.
The Camel men collected three more victories in Saturday's action. Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.) won the 1000 meter run, setting a personal record with a time of 2:48.58. Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) set a personal record of his own with his winning time of 4:28.51 in the mile. Junior Brenner Green (Lisbon, Conn.) won the 5k with a time of 17:11.25.
In the women's action, Sarah Matthews (Westwood, Mass.) joined Holland in the winning column, taking the 600 meter run in a personal record time of 1:45.36. Sophomore Kelsey Nickerson (Weston, Mass.) posted a time of 3:29.49 to triumph in the 1000 meters. Libby Maret (Sandy Hook, Conn.) earned a win in the 3000 meters, logging a time of 12:08.87.
Junior Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) won the one mile run in 5:34.85. Other winners included Lauren Cameron (Portland, Ore.) in the high jump (4 feet, seven and three quarters of an inch) and Alex Cammarata in the long jump (14 feet, three inches).
The Camel foursome comprised of Merry Byrne (Brookside, N.J.), Sarah Matthews, Michelle Wesley (Millwood, N.Y.) and Haley Goodwill (Marlborough, Conn.) won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:21.02. In the 4x800 meter relay, senior Kelsey Taylor (East Hampton, Conn.), Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.), Molly Pistrang (Princeton, Mass.) and Kerry Dermody triumphed in 10:11.82.
