Women Win Gold & Silver in Second Varsity Four
Men Win Bronze in Novice Four for Camels
WORCESTER, Mass.--The Connecticut College men´s and women´s rowing teams competed in the New England Fours Championship on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Saturday. The women earned both a gold and silver medal in the second varsity four regatta while the men took the bronze in the novice four for the Camels.
In the second varsity four, the Camels secured the victory for the gold with a time of 8:23.46.
The boat was stroked by sophomore Lesley Gaughan (Weston, Mass.) with Maureen Sweeney (New Canaan, Conn.) guiding the Camels as the coxswain. Janan Evans-Wilent (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Alex Heilman (Wayland, Mass.) joined Abbe Schickner (Norwich, Vt.) in the bow seat.
The Connecticut College B Boat posted a time of 8:24.61 to win the silver medal.
Senior Mary Fergus (San Francisco, Calif.) handled the stroke seat and Katie Gulick-Tuers (Ringoes, N.J.) coxed the boat. Emily Perry (Westfield, N.J.) and Sarah Brigandi (Winthrop, Mass.) were joined by Kaitlin Varga (Atkinson, N.H.) in the bow seat.
In the men´s novice four, the improving Camels took the bronze with a time of 7:26.94. Bowdoin College won the regatta in 7:18.54 while WPI took second with a time of 7:22.79.
Rob Jubinville (Granby, Mass.) was positioned in the stroke seat with Erin McDonald (Yardley, Pa.) guiding the Camels as the coxswain. Matt Murdock (Middletown, Conn.) and John Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) were joined by Matt Larkin (Trumbull, Conn.) in the bow seat for Connecticut College.
The Camel women place fourth in the varsity four with a time of 8:21.32. Williams College won the gold in 8:04.97. Bowdoin was the runner up in 8:13.97 and Middlebury took third with a time of 8:15.53.
Justine Rooney (Centerville, Mass.) handled the stroke seat and Ari Puleo (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) coxed the boat. Jessica Truelove (Bethlehem, Conn.), Hannah Brassord (Amherst, Mass.) and Lucy Frye (Wenham, Mass.) were seated 3-1.
In the novice eight regatta, the Camels placed sixth with a time of 7:54.97. The University of New Hampshire won the regatta in 7:40.50.
Seana Siekman (Bethel, Maine.) handled the stroke seat with Amanda Jones (Upper Arlington, Ohio) on board as the coxswain. Lila Douglis (Belmont, Mass.), Caity Sprague (Bristol, R.I.), Amy Cheetham (Monroe, Maine), Meghan McLean (Old Lyme, Conn.), Steph Timpone (Malverne, N.Y.), Emma Sherer (Providence, R.I.) and Johanna Collins (Florence, Mass.) were seated 7-1 for the Camels.
