NEW LONDON, Conn. - OnStage at Connecticut College will present Cantus, one of America´s finest professional male a cappella groups, Friday, April 9 at 8 p.m. in Evans Hall. The Minnesota-based ensemble, which was founded by a few college friends at St. Olaf College, is committed to working with youths and encourages singing with its motto "Live. Play. Sing." Cantus is known for a unique collaborative process that gives the group its distinctive style and expressive power. The ensemble of 10 rehearses and performs without a conductor, allowing each singer to have an equal voice. The Los Angeles Times said of the group, "Cantus is a splendid, relatively new male a cappella choral group that swells the ranks of our current golden age of ensemble singing in a distinctive way," and, "Other groups aim for a honeyed but disembodied sound. Cantus matches that blend, but it also revels in a heft of sound hardly imagined possible from 10 men singing without accompaniment." Tickets are $22 for general admission, $20 for seniors and $11 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit http://onstage.conncoll.edu or call (860) 439-ARTS.
