Watkins Selected to NFHCA All-Region Team for Camels
Camels' Senior Tri-Captain Earns NESCAC & Regional Honors for 2nd Consecutive Year
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College senior tri-captain Kelly Watkins of San Jose, Calif. has been named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) squad and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA)/Longstreth Division III All-New England West Region Second Team for the second consecutive year.
Watkins has proved to be one of the team's top markswomen in program history. This fall, she played an integral role on a stout Camel defense that posted a shutout win against NESCAC rival Wesleyan University as well as a road conference triumph at Colby College.
Connecticut College Head Field Hockey Coach Debbie Lavigne was pleased with the post-season recognition for Watkins have earned and is looking forward to an exciting 2011 season of Camel field hockey.
"Kelly was the backbone of our team this season with her consistent overall play," Lavigne said. "She was assigned to play against the best attackers in the NESCAC and in the country, and was successful defending and creating transitional opportunities using her speed and strong stick skills. Kelly is deserving of these accolades and they are tremendous honors for our program."
In the classroom, Watkins has been equally impressive and will be named to the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year when it is formally announced next week.
Watkins will graduate with a psychology degree this spring. She is also earning a minor in biology from the College.
