Gallant Places Fifth in 10,000 Meters at Monmouth
Women's Sprint Medley Relay Team Breaks Longstanding School Record
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.--The Connecticut College Track & Field Team opened its spring season in the Garden State of New Jersey with the Monmouth University Invitational. Four Camels qualified for the New England Division III Championship and a longstanding school record was broken along the way.
In the 10,000 meters, senior Colin Gallant (Ashford, Conn.) posted a time of 33:22.86 to place fifth, earning an invitation to the New England Division III Championship. In the same event, senior Brenner Green (Lisbon, Conn.) had his ticket stamped for the New England Division III Championship with a time of 33:37.29.
Two Camel women earned invites to the New England Division III Championship. Senior Lianne Swanson (Franklin, Mass.) posted a time of 18:49.72 in the 5000 meters. The finish qualifies her in both the 5000 and 10000 meter distance.
Samantha Pevear (Somersworth, N.H.) threw the discus 113 feet and one inch for Connecticut College.
In the sprint medley relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.), Vicki Weigold (Glen, N.H.), Gina Deitz (Portland, Ore.) and Michelle Wesley (Millwood, N.Y.) broke a school record that had stood since 1994 with a time of 4:34.58.
28 Camels qualified for the upcoming NESCAC Championship Saturday.
