NEW LONDON, Conn.--Corbett Corrigan Harreys (Essex, Conn.) scored with 51 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift the Western New England University men's lacrosse team to a 6-5 victory against Connecticut College in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship played on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field Wednesday. With their third straight win, the Golden Bears advance for a second round match up at RIT Saturday. The Camels, who qualified for the NCAA Championship for the second time in the past three seasons, close out the 2012 campaign with a record of 10-7. Patrick White (Milton, Mass.) had three goals to lead the visitors offensively. Corrigan Harreys scored twice while Owen Caruso (Port Washington, N.Y.) netted his 13th goal of the season. Brewster Knowlton (Somers, Conn.) made two of his 10 saves in overtime for the visitors. Connecticut College junior midfielder John Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) scored a pair of second half goals for the Camels. Junior Andrew Freedman (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Chuck Czerkawski (Cohasset, Mass.) won 9-of-15 face-offs to go with a game-high four ground balls. Senior defender Clay Hillyer (South Windsor, Conn.) corralled three ground balls for the Camels. Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.) made eight saves in the contest for Connecticut College. Locked up in a 2-2 tie at the half, the Golden Bears scored twice in a 59 second span of the third quarter to take a two-goal lead. White was the facilitator on the first goal as he threaded the needle to Corrigan Harreys with a pass from behind the cage. Then, with 11:44 remaining, White rifled home an outside shot in an extra man situation to put the Golden Bears on top 4-2. But the Camels scored the next three goals to pull ahead with a 5-4 advantage. Lyons netted an outside shot with 9:22 to go. Later on with 4:08 remaining, Freedman made a cross-crease pass to Lyons for the equalizer. With 25 seconds left to play in the third, Freedman put the Camels on top 5-4 with the assist coming from Tyler Corcoran (Simsbury, Conn.). In the fourth quarter, White scored his third goal of the day with 6:25 remaining for the visitors. Joe O'Keefe (Branford, Conn.) assisted on the equalizer. Neither side could find the back of the net in the closing moments of regulation. Knowlton made two huge stops in the overtime for Western New England, one in the first session and one in the deciding second session. With 51 seconds remaining in the second overtime, Reardon connected with Corrigan Harreys in the center of the box for the game-winner. Connecticut College out-shot Western New England 30-to-25.
