LeDuc Advances to Finals in Steeplechase at NCAA Championship
CLAREMONT, Calif.--Connecticut College sophomore Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.) posted a time of 9:13.78 to finish third in his heat of the 3000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Claremont, Calif Thursday.
With his finish, LeDuc advances to Saturday's finals. LeDuc posted a time of 9:01.83 to win the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship hosted by RPI this past weekend. With his performance, LeDuc secured an invitation to the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
LeDuc broke his own school record (9:03.72) and successfully defended his 2011 ECAC Championship. Last year, LeDuc posted a winning time of 9:13.48 at Moravian College.
"Mike has been working to get back to Nationals ever since he placed sixth there last year," Head Men's Cross Country Coach/Assistant Head Track & Field Coach Jim Butler said. "We spoke on the phone about a week after that race, and he set some high goals for himself. Now he gets a chance to go and achieve them, and I think his training has put him right where he needs to be."
LeDuc posted a time of 9:03.72 in the 3000 meter steeplechase to place sixth at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Ohio Wesleyan University, capping off a memorable rookie season as an All-American for Connecticut College
