#6 Camels Take Lead at Sperry-Top Sider Women's ICSA Semi-Finals in Austin
AUSTIN, Tex.--The sixth ranked Connecticut College women's sailing team is off to a fast start in the Semifinal Round of the Inter Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA)/Sperry Top-Sider Women's National Championship hosted by the University of Texas on Lake Travis in Austin. The Camels sit atop the 18 team field with a score of 51 points.
13th ranked Charleston is just four points back with 55 points, while the fourth ranked Bears of Brown University are in striking distance with 70 points.
"We are trying to stay focused and hopefully move onto the finals," Connecticut College Head Sailing Coach Jeff Bresnhan said Wednesday night.
The top nine finishers from this group will join nine teams that have previously qualified to vie for the Gerald C. Miller Memorial Trophy.
Junior skipper Atlantic Brugman (Barcelona, Spain), Liz Wilsterman (Winchester, Mass.) and Claire Sacco (Glenmont, N.Y.) are third in the A division with a score of 31 points.
In the B division, senior Bitsy Whipple (Plandome, N.Y.), Kim Bolick (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Katie St. George (Marblehead, Mass.) have scored 28 points en route to their second place showing in the Lone Star State.
Last June, the Connecticut College women place second at the national championship in Cascade Lakes, Ore.
