Middle school students enjoy afterschool enrichment at Connecticut College

Two days each week, middle school students from New London’s Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School travel to the Connecticut College campus for after-school homework help and enrichment activities led by College faculty, staff, students, coaches and athletes.

One Thursday earlier this month, our cameras captured ENRICH students taking part in ice skating, video and filmmaking, music technology and science workshops. The skating event was organized by hockey players Isabel Gleekel ’19 and Mason Evans ’18, while Ned Rogers ’16 taught a group to use a synthesizer and various other instruments and led a discussion on sounds and beat-making. Students used iPads to film each other acting out and performing scenes in a workshop organized by Christian Vazquez ’19, and also made lava lamps with water bottles, food coloring, oil, water and Alka-Seltzer tablets.

ENRICH is a program of Connecticut College’s Office of Volunteers for Community Service, which partners with more than 50 organizations in the greater New London community to engage students with issues of community activism, social justice and diversity.
