Christopher Rust joined Connecticut College as director of purchasing on April 3. Rust brings an extensive background in higher education procurement, budgeting and planning, as well as a wealth of global business experience, says Amanda Mayfield, the College’s controller.

Rust joins the College from Mount Holyoke College where he served as director of purchasing. Prior to his role as director, he served as Mount Holyoke’s library information and technology associate director of budget, procurement & planning. Earlier in his career, Rust held financial management positions in businesses and organizations in Massachusetts and Ireland.

The Accounting Department will host a reception on Friday, May 5, from 10:30-11:15 a.m., in Blaustein 203, so the College community can meet Rust and hear a short presentation about ways in which he can help them with the purchasing process. Rust will also address purchasing initiatives, including:

  • best practices throughout the procurement process
  • the College's Purchasing Policies
  • adopting new technologies
  • supplier management
  • contract negotiation

Anyone who is responsible for purchasing goods or services on behalf of Connecticut College can contact Rust with questions about preferred vendors, requests for proposal, contract terms and signing authority, as well as general purchasing issues. Additional information about purchasing services can be found here.

Christopher Rust can be reached at purchasing@conncoll.edu, Christopher.Rust@conncoll.edu, or x5328.
