Connecticut College seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and creative enrollment professional to serve as its next Dean of Admission and Financial Aid.  The new Dean, reporting to the President, will be a compelling spokesperson for the College, its progressive history, and the campus community’s values.

The College is looking for an experienced administrator who understands the challenges of college recruitment, enrollment, and admissions and who wants to work with high-school students of the highest caliber—and with an excellent, committed, and diverse faculty—to match the talents of potential applicants to the unique assets of the College. S/he will serve as a key member of the President’s cabinet, work collaboratively to engage the entire campus in enrollment management, and serve as the catalyst for recruiting, admitting and retaining a diverse and highly selective class. The Dean liaises with the VP for Finance and sits on the College’s budget committee to set enrollment and financial aid targets each year. S/he also works closely with the VP for Communications to hone messaging, with the VP for Advancement to engage alumni in off-campus interviewing and recruitment, and with on-campus faculty to foster and develop relationships with promising candidates for admission that will persist throughout a student’s time at the College.  Working closely with the office of the Dean of the College, s/he will align the message of admission with the experience of being a Connecticut College student in order to create an environment for student success.

The successful candidate will be expected to achieve short and long-term enrollment goals and managing a financial aid budget of over $30 million; develop new strategies for marketing, outreach, recruitment, and stewardship of an increasingly discerning applicants and their families; and work collaboratively with faculty, deans, and other senior administrators to integrate enrollment management into Connecticut College’s ongoing strategic planning.  This will include defining the brand and profile for national and international audiences, developing innovative, data-driven strategies for both recruitment and retention, and leveraging financial aid resources to enroll a high quality student body.

The new Dean will have proven experience in enrollment management, undergraduate or independent school admission and financial aid, and marketing and brand communication, including 10 to 15 years of experience in college, university or independent school administration, a record of achievement in positions of increasing scope in the admission field, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role.  Financial acumen and experience using data to plan and execute decisions are a must. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

S/he will need to possess a strong understanding of the student marketplace, Connecticut College’s position in it, and opportunities in the market for the College; a national presence in higher or secondary education enrollment management associations and a strong national reputation among enrollment colleagues; ability to establish strong and effective collaborative relationships across internal and external constituencies and to build connections throughout the College; keen strategic and visionary sense; proven strength in analytical forecasting, tracking, and reporting of admission and enrollment-related data to support planning and decision making; experience with student information systems in a college setting and successful record of implementing technology-based recruitment strategies; demonstrated commitment to diversity; thorough understanding of need-based and merit-based financial aid and knowledge of creative alternatives for its use in recruiting and retaining students; strong interpersonal and communication skills, proven operating performance, and effective mentoring and training competencies; strong understanding of current and future student needs and the ability to communicate and collaborate with student initiatives; and the capacity to articulate the College’s mission and distinctiveness to diverse audiences.
