Founded in 1911, Connecticut College is a private liberal arts college located in New London, Connecticut. The college is known for its interdisciplinary approach to education and its commitment to preparing students to address complex challenges in a rapidly changing world.

What research and internship opportunities are available at Connecticut College?

As a small institution with a low student to faculty ratio, students are often brought in to work directly with faculty members on their research. Students may be:

  • Cited as co-authors on papers, journal articles and book chapters
  • Travel with faculty to present their results at conferences
  • Eligible for research funding not just in STEM but also in the humanities via programs like SSRI & ConnSSHARP

The Hale Center’s Career Action Program provides students with the opportunity to get funding all four years to pursue internships and job training to help them launch their careers. 

What are the housing options and roommate arrangements like?

Housing is provided for students all four years at Conn with most of our students living in dorms on campus. New students usually live in doubles, triples or quads while continuing students are most often in singles and doubles. All of our residence halls are mixed gender with gender-inclusive bathrooms, though some have gender-specific floors.

In preparation for your arrival to Conn, you'll fill out a New Student Housing Form which will ask you about likes and dislikes, personal habits, study habits, and so on to help us match you with your roommate(s)!

How can I tailor my education to my interests?

Through Connections, our general education program, you’ll be deliberately pulling together your intellectual pursuits: your classes, your major, your internship, your projects. We have nine Pathways and five centers for interdisciplinary scholarship for you to explore and use to augment your major.

Pathways and Centers allow you to meet an entire community of scholars outside of your major and invite you to broaden your interests and learn alongside those with sometimes radically different perspectives.

What academic support networks are available to students?

At Connecticut College we believe in the power of community which you'll find out from your first day on campus. When you arrive From the moment you join us on campus, you'll be given a team of advisers to help you settle in:

  • a faculty adviser
  • a staff adviser
  • student advisers
  • a career adviser

In addition to our team advising approach, we have a number of programs specifically designed to help each of our students succeed including but not limited to:

  • The First-Year Seminar - a required class to help you transition to college
  • The Office of Academic Support - an entire department dedicated to ensuring that our students have tutoring and academic aid available to them
  • Student Accessibility Services - dedicated to ensuring that all of our students are given equitable access to a stellar education

Are there many opportunities for students to join athletic teams or clubs?

55% of students at Conn are involved in athletics. In addition to our roster of Division 3 teams, we also have both club and intermural sports. As a waterfront campus we also offer the unique opportunity for students to try sports like rowing and sailing!
