Dachille Named Inside Lacrosse/Nike National Player of the Week for 8th Ranked Connecticut College
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College senior attackman Steve Dachille of Garden City, N.Y. has been named the Inside Lacrosse/Nike National Division III Player of the Week.
Dachille scored five goals in both of the Camels´ one-goal victories last week, as Connecticut College improved to 8-0 on the season and 4-0 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Monday afternoon, Dachille was recognized as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men´s Lacrosse Player of the Week.
On Tuesday March 30 versus Keene St., Dachille recorded the 100th goal of his career in a 12-11 win against the Owls. He posted his second five-goal performance of the week Saturday at Bowdoin, netting the game-winner in overtime as the Camels erased a five-goal halftime deficit to earn an 8-7 decision over the Polar Bears. Dachille leads the NESCAC with 23 goals scored.
The Camels have climbed all the way up to #8 in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III National Poll.
Connecticut College Head Men´s Lacrosse Coach Dave Cornell is proud to have Dachille as one of his captains and is pleased with the national attention the Camels are receiving.
"Steve is a tremendous leader for our team and he is finding ways to score," Cornell asserted. "He´s being locked off a lot this year but he´s smart and is manufacturing opportunities for himself in other ways."
Dachille has vaulted his way into fifth place on the program´s all-time goal scoring list with 106 goals scored. He has distributed 25 assists and amassed 131 points in a Camel uniform.
The Camels visit Williams College Wednesday night for a 6:00 p.m. game in Williamstown, Mass. In the latest NCAA Rankings, the stingy Connecticut College defense is ranked in the top 15 percent in the country with just 7.25 goals allowed per game. The Camels are ranked in the top 10% (16th) with a 63% success rate on face offs.
Dachille leads the club with 27 points on 23 goals and four assists. Junior Ryan Hayes (Darien, Conn.) has tallied 10 goals, nine assists and 19 points. Eric Doran (Pennington, N.J.) has chipped in with 13 goals, four assists and 17 points.
Chuck Czerkawski (Cohasset, Mass.) is seventh in the nation with a 70% face off percentage (81-for-116) and leads the club with 45 ground balls. Senior midfielder Sean Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) has corralled 26 ground balls while Will Schumann (East Hampton, N.Y.) has supplied 19 ground balls from his defensive post.
Sophomore net-minder Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.) is tied for third in NESCAC save percentage (.617) and is ranked fourth in the league with a 7.28 goals against average.
