WILLIMANTIC, Conn.--The Connecticut College track and field teams competed in the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational Friday. Sophomores Brigi Palatino (Ludlow, Mass.) and Alex DeShields (Melrose, Mass.) won two events each to pace the Camels in a productive day of competition. Palatino swept the 100 and 200 meter dash with respective times of 13.44 and 27.86 seconds. In the 4x100 meter relay, Palatino ran the lead leg in 13.09 seconds, helping the Camels place second as a team in 52.82. Palatino added a seventh place score in the javelin, covering a distance of 79 feet, one inch. DeShields cruised to victory in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.32 seconds. In the long jump, DeShields recorded a mark of 20 feet, one inch to secure another Camel win. Both the men and women established school records in the 4x1500 meter relay. Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Tim Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.), Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) and Colin Gallant (Ashford, Conn.) posted a winning time of 17:53.91 for the men. Junior Kelsey Taylor (East Hampton, Conn.), Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.), Molly Pistrang (Princeton, Mass.) and Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) coasted to victory in 21:08.09 for the women. The Camel women added four more victories Friday. In the 800 meter run, Connecticut College finished 1-2-3-4 in a clean sweep. Taylor posted a winning time of 2:25.89. Pistrang, Bonito, and Dermody finished second, third and fourth with respective times of 2:26.10, 2:26.18 and 2:27.30 for Connecticut College. Junior Melanie Poole (Middlefield, Conn.) posted a time of 20:35.39 to win the 5k. Freshman Tess Peckler (Olympia, Wash.) won the high jump (4 feet, 11 inches) and senior Margaret Thayer (Littleton, Colo.) triumphed in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, three and one quarter of an inch. The men´s squad triumphed in four other events. In the high jump, senior Mickey Lenzi (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and junior Tommy Howd (Sudbury, Mass.) tied for first with jumps of five feet, seven and one quarter of an inch. Owen Wismen (Weston, Conn.) reached his apex at 12 feet, six inches to win the pole vault event. Doug Wright led a Camel trio that finished first, second and third in the 1500 meters. Wright posted a winning time of 4:12.75 with Tim Murtagh and Colin Gallant finishing second and third with respective times of 4:14.68 and 4:16.45. In the 5k, sophomore Hoit McAllister (McLean, Va.) cruised to victory in 16:26.09 for Connecticut College. In the pole vault, Owen Wiseman (Weston, Conn.) reached his apex at 12 feet, three and one quarter of an inch for the Camels.
