Joyce Scores Third Period Goal for Camels
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Ryan Crapser (Paxton, Mass.) scored the go-ahead goal with 9:41 remaining that the proved to be the difference as visiting Trinity College (11-6-2, 8-4-2) outlasted Connecticut College (4-14-1, 3-10-1) in a 4-1 victory at Dayton Arena Friday night.
Junior Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.) stopped 25 of 26 shots for the Bantams. Benjamin Shellington (Hanover, Mass.), Sean McCarthy (Duxbury, Mass.) and Adam Houli (Howell, N.J.) all contributed with goals for Trinity. Joe Tierney (Reading, Mass.) dished out a pair of assists for the winning side.
Connecticut College senior Ryan Joyce (Dorchester, Mass.) scored his third goal of the season. Joe Capuano (Melrose, Mass.) and Julien Boutet (Amos, Quebec) assisted on the marker. Senior net-minder Greg Parker (Trenton, Ontario) made 21 saves for the hosts.
The Bantams carried a 1-0 lead into the third period of action. With 12:36 remaining, Joyce supplied the equalizer with a power play goal. Boutet cycled the puck out from behind the Trinity goal to Capuano near the left circle. Joyce took a feed from Capuano at the center of the blue line and launched a rocket that found the back of the net.
But the Bantams regained their one goal lead with 9:41 to play. Zachary Lombardi (Locust Valley, N.Y.) was able to win a battle for the Puck below the left circle and found Crapser open in the slot for a one-timer to put the Bantams on top.
The Camels had an opportunity to tie the game when Trinity was assessed with a penalty at the 18:25 mark. Connecticut College used its timeout and emptied the net to gain a two-man advantage. But the Bantams were able to gain possession near the blue line and McCarthy put in an empty-netter to seal the victory. Trinity added a second empty net goal to close out the 4-1 win.
