College names new director of LGBTQIA Center

The Office of the Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion has appointed Erin Duran director of the LGBTQIA Center. Duran will join the College on Aug. 8.

Duran previously served as interim associate director of the LGBT Resource Center at Syracuse University. Prior to that, he served in two roles at Gettysburg College—as residential life coordinator and the founding LGBTQA adviser. Duran earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology at Grinnell College and a graduate degree in education from Pennsylvania State University.

“A product of a small, private liberal arts education, Erin is excited to return to an environment that aligns more closely with his values and promotes critical thinking, diversity and equity, and shared governance,” John McKnight, dean of institutional equity and inclusion, said in an announcement of Duran’s appointment.

The College’s LGBTQIA Center, founded in 2007, serves the unique needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning students by providing a supportive space, resource library, social events and educational programming.

The center has helped earn the College recognition for its support of the LGBTQ community. In 2014, Campus Pride and The Huffington Post named the College one of the nation’s friendliest campuses for LGBTQ students.
