Faculty art exhibit is diverse in ideas and mediums
The Department of Studio Art, a vibrant community of artists who not only teach, but actively pursue their art and research, presents its Faculty Exhibition 2016, Monday, Sept. 19 through Friday, Dec. 9.
The exhibition in the Cummings Art Center Galleries is free and open to the public, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The galleries will be closed for the College's fall break, Oct. 1-4, and Thanksgiving break, Nov. 23-27.
A reception will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Joanne Toor Cummings Gallery in Cummings. The artists will be present to discuss their works.
The 2016 show is diverse in ideas and mediums, as demonstrated through photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture and digital media, with works by Gregory Bailey, Chris Barnard, Ted Hendrickson, Pamela Marks, Timothy McDowell and Andrea Wollensak, and visiting faculty Paul McMullan, Shauna Merriman and Amanda Gutierrez.
On Nov. 16, from 4:15 to 5 p.m., Amanda Gutierrez will present a public lecture on her work in Cummings Room 308. The artist will discuss the relationships between the concepts of memory, home, and landscape as a focus in her work. Her video narratives reflect upon the interpretive and representational aspects of constructing identity as reflected in architecture and landscape.
