Learning Specialist
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is here to help students reach their fullest potential. Professional staff, peer mentors and tutors offer support in skill areas such as time management, studying, reading and writing, presenting and communication, among others.
All Conn students are welcome to schedule an individualized appointment or set up recurring meetings with ARC staff. Drop by the office, located on the second floor of Shain Library, during business hours or contact ARC Director Chris Colbath or OAS Associate Director Tricia Walsh.
The ARC runs peer tutoring sessions for courses in the languages, social sciences, arts and other disciplines. (STEM tutoring is available through the QSC.) Interested in becoming a peer tutor? We need a recommendation email from a faculty member, preferably the person who teaches the course for which you wish to tutor.
ARC staff along with OAS Student Ambassadors offer programming for courses, for example, college reading & note-taking or time and project management. We often visit classrooms and run or support such sessions.
Peer Tutors provide supplementary course-connected content instruction and support for students, with focus on introductory first-year and sophomore-year courses that create the greatest challenges for students. The overarching goal of peer tutoring at Connecticut College is to enable students to become independent learners. Tutors are employed by the College and are paid by the Academic Resource Center (ARC). The ARC provides tutoring to Connecticut College students at no additional cost.
The Office of Academic Support is home to the College’s testing center for students with accommodations. Distraction-reduced, private-setting and other accommodations are provided in this space. ARC and SAS staff collaborate closely to provide the highest quality support to students with disabilities.
