More than 230 alumni athletes and coaches joined Tim Armstrong '93 and Luke Beatty '93, to launch the first-ever Camel Athletics Club at AOL Headquarters in New York City, Jan. 20. Those in attendance heard from Armstrong, CEO of AOL, and Beatty, president of media brands at AOL, as well as ESPN analyst and the voice of college football, Kirk Herbstreit, and Rand Pecknold '90, head coach of men's ice hockey at Quinnipiac, currently the No. 1-ranked program in the country. President Katherine Bergeron and Director of Athletics Fran Shields also spoke.
Kirk Herbstreit has served as an analyst for ESPN's three-time Sports Emmy Award-winning College GameDay Built by The Home Depot show since August 1996, when he joined host Chris Fowler and co-analyst Lee Corso. Known for his no-nonsense analysis and insightful perspective, he is also a frequent contributor to SportsCenter, ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine. In January 2004, Sporting News magazine ranked Herbstreit and fellow GameDay personalities Corso and Fowler as 2003's "Most Powerful Media Personalities in Sports."
An economics major, Rand Pecknold '90 completed his 21st season in 2014-15 as the Bobcats head coach, guiding his squad to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and the fourth of his coaching career. To date, Pecknold features a career record of 414-260-76 and currently ranks sixth among all active NCAA Division I coaches in career victories. In 2012-13, he was named the ECAC Hockey Tim Taylor Coach of the Year and the New England Hockey Writers' Association Clark Hodder Coach of the Year while also recognized as a finalist for the prestigious Spencer Penrose National Coach of the Year award.
