Q. When will construction begin?

Tuesday, June 7.

Q. I am a prospective student who wants to visit campus for a tour. Will my visit be impeded by construction projects on campus this summer?

Not at all. You will be able to proceed directly to Horizon House, our admission center, from either the Route 32 or Williams Street entrances. On your campus tour, you may see some projects being implemented as part of our ongoing campus renewal program.

Q. I am very interested in seeing Unity House while I’m visiting campus this summer. Will I be able to take a tour?

Unity House will be closed this summer as we reconstruct the roadways and walkways leading to the building and upgrade the student recreation, social and meeting spaces inside Unity House.

Q. Where can we find Unity House employees this summer?
 
Unity House staff are working out of the Academic Resource Center in Shain Library for the summer.

Q. Is Shain Library open this summer? What about the Linda Lear Center for Special Collections & Archives?

Yes, the library will be open throughout the summer, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Lear Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. More information about library hours is available here.

Q. I plan to visit Becker House or Winthrop House this summer. Where can I park?

Parking will be available in the Zachs Hillel House lot, North lot and the lot in front of Hamilton and Lambdin Houses. Please follow the signs to Becker and Winthrop Houses.

Q. What is going to happen to the trees currently found where the new section of roadway is planned?

Our staff, including Glenn Dreyer, the Charles and Sarah P. Becker Director of the Arboretum, have been working closely with a professional arborist firm to relocate and preserve as many trees as possible. We will remove trees that are already distressed or decayed.

Q. How do I get to the Athletic Center?

Access to the pedestrian bridge will be available throughout the summer. There will be a section of campus around Becker House, Unity House and Larrabee that is blocked off with temporary fencing. Depending on your starting point, you may have a slightly longer walk to get around Becker House to the bridge. 

Q. Will there be proper signage up by Monday guiding guests to frequently visited areas/buildings?

Fencing and signage will begin to be installed on Monday, June 6.

Q. Will the gate house staff be fully aware of how visitors should get around campus and where to park? Will they have updated maps for visitors?

Yes, updated campus maps will be available in the gatehouse and at other locations on campus.

Q. When do we anticipate the facilities work to be complete?

The facilities projects should be completed by the week of Aug. 22.

The Print Shop will be accessible via the Route 32 sidewalk or by walking around Larrabee and along Cro Boulevard. To reach Cro or the library, you will walk around Larrabee and along Cro Boulevard. Signs will help guide you.

Q. When do we anticipate the facilities work to be complete?

Q. I work in Becker House. Where can I park?

There will be absolutely no parking in Larrabee parking lot or Becker House parking lot for the duration of the summer.

Suggestions for parking include:

  • Cro Boulevard in front of Cro and Shain Library (for employees on main campus)
  • Zachs Hillel House parking lot (recommended for Becker and Winthrop staff)
  • North Lot (recommended for Becker and Winthrop staff)
  • Athletic Center parking lot (recommended for Becker and Winthrop staff)
  • South Lot (but keep in mind that one will have to walk the long pedestrian route all around campus to access Becker House!)

Keep in mind that the Benham Road and rear entrance to the campus will also be frequented by delivery trucks and construction vehicles.

Q. Where will UPS and FEDEX make their deliveries and pickups for Becker and Winthrop?

Vehicles making deliveries can drive up to the gate on the existing Winthrop-Becker Road. There will be walkway access to the building from the gate. Any planned deliveries of multiple or large items should be coordinated through Toni Phillips, our construction management firm’s assistant project manager.
