Education
Stephen Grant graduated as a chemistry major from Stony Brook University in 2015 before attending Caltech for his PhD. Stephen's thesis revolved around using electrophysiology and microscopy to determine the molecular effects of menthol on nicotinic receptors, how COVID-19 affected epithelial sodium channel function, and the "inside-out" pharmacology of opioids. After defending in 2021, Stephen pursued postdoctoral work at Yale University with Professor Craig Crews. There, he developed chemical degraders to target problematic proteins in kidney disease. In 2023, he moved to work with Professor Ben Turk, where he developed novel methods to study cancer signaling by directing kinase activity to a single, chosen substrate. In 2025, Stephen was also an adjunct faculty member in the biology department at Sacred Heart University as teaching and mentoring have always brought him great joy. Now, Stephen is excited to join the faculty at Connecticut College to teach chemistry and biochemistry lab classes.
