Six spring athletic teams earn academic accolades
Six spring athletic teams—women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, and women’s water polo—have earned all-academic recognition from their sports’ respective organizations.
Women’s Lacrosse
The women's lacrosse team earned Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad laurels, awarded to teams with a collective grade point average of at least 3.0. The Camels recorded a 3.21 GPA and placed three student-athletes—Kate Bermingham ’20, Erin Martin ’19 and Jamie Navoni ’19—on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, a recognition for student-athletes who are juniors, seniors, or graduate students with a cumulative GPA of a 3.50 or higher.
Men’s Tennis
The Connecticut College men's tennis team was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team. To earn the distinction, a team must register a cumulative grade point average of a 3.20 or better. The Camel men recorded a 3.52 team GPA to easily surpass the standard. In addition, eight Camels—Brandon Ameglio ’21, Will Cannon ’19, Zachary Danz ’21, Guillermo Garcia Rincon ’21, Evan Goldsmith ’22, Brian Gould ’21, Gabe Josephs ’22 and Walter Komishane ’21—were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes for earning GPAs of at least a 3.50 during the 2018-2019 academic year.
Women’s Tennis
The Connecticut College women's tennis team was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team. The team’s recorded a collective GPA of 3.47, far above the 3.20 mark required to earn the distinction. Eight student-athletes were also recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes for earning GPAs of at least a 3.50 during the 2018-2019 academic year. They are: Brinley Bartlett ’19, Elena Erdekian ’20, Allison Falvey ’22, Emily Migliorini ’19, Skylar Morgan ’21, Stephanie Simon ’20, Alexandra Waldman ’20 and Mariah Warren ’19.
Men’s Track and Field
The Connecticut College men’s track and field team has been recognized for academic success by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). To earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or higher. The men's team, under the guidance of head coach Luke Maher, finished with a 3.40 cumulative GPA.
Women’s Track and Field
The women’s track and field team finished the academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.53 to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors, awarded to teams with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.1. Two members of the team, Shannon Kennedy ’19 and Emily Senatore ’19, were honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic selections for their academic and athletic accomplishments. To qualify, student-athletes must have earned a cumulative GPA above a 3.30 and must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or in the national top-35 in a relay. Kennedy advanced to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to compete in the heptathlon and was No. 35 in the pentathlon during the indoor season, while Senatore ranked No. 23 nationally in the discus throw.
Women’s Water Polo
The Connecticut College women's water polo team earned all-academic recognition from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) for excellence in the classroom. The Camels registered a 3.32 cumulative grade point average, ranking third among the 10 CWPA Division III institutions. Additionally, five members of the team—Brooklynn Hayes ’21, Ashley Ignatowski ’20, Stephania Lopez ’21, Kaitlin Reagan ’20 and Hannah Rogers ’20—were recognized for recording a GPA of at least 3.20 as a sophomore, junior or senior. Lopez, a two-time ACWPC All-American, was recognized in the ‘outstanding’ category for notching a GPA above a 3.7.
